what a great weekend! my mom was in town and i was so thankful she encouraged me to do some traditional halloween activities. rich was out of town so on saturday night we made caramel apples, carved a pumpkin (which is usually rich's job so i was so glad it turned out and i am not going to tell anyone i used a kit), and roasted pumpkin seeds. sallie was so helpful opening every single piece of caramel candy without eating one and she even helped poke at the pumpkin a little.

rich and his dad arrived late saturday night and sallie was super excited to see them both and have a house full on sunday morning. after a yummy breakfast, and a delicious lunch prepared by my sweet mom, gg and papa both headed their separate ways and the three of us got prepared for our night of halloween fun.

we stopped by to see mary and georgann and then met our friends at sonic for a free hot dog and coke. it was such a beautiful evening, so our picnic at sonic was such a treat! and then on to trick or treating. honestly, i wasn't sure how sallie would do. would she even understand the concept? i was pleasantly surprised to find that she wasn't scared to walk (run) up to the front porches and said "tick or treat" most of the time without my help, and i even heard her say thank you right away several times. she would take a few steps and immediately dig through her pail to find the new treat she had just been given and was so excited to show it to me and then hop back into the wagon for a ride to the next stop.

i must say the best thing the whole night was seeing her eyes pop wide open to find that mickey and minnie lived right here in springdale. a life sized mickey and minnie were handing out candy and she took off, hugged on both of them, went inside the house. rich had to literally walk into the house to get her.......she did not want to leave. we returned to their house three different times, until finally mickey and minnie had to go night night.
oh, the smile on her face......guess we've got to plan a trip to disney after that excitement. i will now look forward to this time of year every year, i am still grinning from all the fun we had!
