i was pretty excited tonight when sallie didn't scream and cry for daddy when it was time to go to bed. for the past several weeks, he is the only one she will even think about putting her to bed. but tonight, the reason i am not certain (other than she got a spanking and time out from dad), she let mom put her night night.
we headed up to her room, picked out two books and sat in her rocker. after we read she got to pick one book to keep in her hands while we rocked. we said our prayers together and below is our conversation, one i want to always remember as we rocked and rocked:
m: want me to sing you a song? s: yes m: which one? s: yittle yamb(mary had a little lamb), so we sing together m: want me to sing another song? s: yes m: which one? s: bitsy spider, so we sang together m: want me to sing another song? s: yes m: which one? s: jesus yuvs me.....this response gave me the chills, and we sang together. after this song she just started talking about her day:
s: yittle yamb on my bible m: yes sallie you have a bible with a lamb on it s: baby at school? m: yes honey you left her there, it is in your cubby so you can have it when you take a nap s: mary get it for me? m: yes, mary will get it for you when you go night night s: on cot m: yes, when you sleep on your cot s: colt no get it m: no, colt won't get your baby doll s: sallie's mommy here now, m: yes, mommy came to pick you up from school s: colts mommy coming, tucker's daddy coming. sallie's mommy here now. daddy's at home, eat dinner with mommy daddy.......yogurt, popsicle (yes this was her dinner, she is getting her 2 year molars we think, so just about anything goes) colt bite sallie's finger, sallie no bite, colt no bite, swiper no swiping....
a few minutes pass in silence....... s: uh oh (we dropped puppy) m: sallie be still s: okay
she quickly falls asleep with puppy and her book clenched tightly in her hands......and mommy can't stop smiling.
